Dozens of Bedouin women are on a hunger strike to call for Israeli authorities to release the body of a beloved community leader killed during a clash with a Jewish settler in the Israeli-occupied West Bank last week.

The US State Department on Sunday confirmed an American citizen had died this week in the West Bank amid growing Israeli settler violence.

Awdah Hathaleen, whose work was featured in the Oscar-winning documentary “No Other Land,” was shot dead. The suspect had been subject to U.S. sanctions, but President Trump lifted them.

Palestinians in West Bank are unable to mourn 31-year-old Awdah, while the Israeli settler who shot him walks free.
