This year's first human case of West Nile virus has been confirmed in a Huntington resident, Suffolk County Health officials announced Friday. The individual, who was not identified, is under the age of 50 and started to experience symptoms in mid-August, according to Suffolk officials. They were hospitalized and are currently recovering at home.

Natick High School has postponed Friday night's football game over growing concerns about West Nile Virus. The game against Newton North will instead be played Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Natick High School.

About 1 out of 150 infected people with West Nile develop a severe illness affecting the central nervous system.

Two cases have been confirmed in Middlesex County, and one each in Essex and Hampden counties, state officials said Friday.

Framingham was among several Massachusetts communities whose risk level for West Nile virus have been raised by the state from "moderate" to "high" after two more people tested positive for the virus — one of whom is from the city.

The Natick High School football game, originally scheduled for Friday night, instead will be held on Saturday morning, WBZ-TV reported.

A fourth case of West Nile Virus has been detected in Massachusetts. On Friday, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) announced two additional human cases of West Nile virus. One is in a man in his 40s who was likely exposed to the virus in Hampden County, and the other is in a man in his 80s with exposure in Middlesex County.

West Nile Virus risk The Massachusetts DPH said the hours from dusk to dawn are peak biting times for many mosquitoes. The risk for West Nile Virus is now high in 28 municipalities in Suffolk, Middlesex, Essex, and Worcester counties.

Natick was scheduled to open its 2025 football season under the Friday night lights. The Redhawks will have to wait a little longer.
