(Gray News) – There is a new world record for the longest lightning flash. According to the World Meteorological Organization, the record-breaking strike was an incredible 515 miles long. It would take a car about eight to nine hours and a commercial plane at least 90 minutes to cover that distance.

The lighting occurred on October 22, 2017, and the horizontal distance stretched 515 miles from east Texas to near Kansas City, Missouri, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
