The US Forest Service aims to roll out a new ‘triad’ plan to protect old and new tree growth in Green Mountain National Forest and still allow logging.
Bear Meadows Natural Area recently became the 39th Pennsylvania forest and first in Centre County to be inducted into the national Old-Growth Forest Network.
Not only did the Forest Service ignore its own old growth retention requirements, the agency failed to analyze the impacts on a host of old-growth dependent wildlife.
The ceremony also formally designated the woodlands as Brooklyn's own "old growth forest," part of a national network of significant forests worthy of recognition.
