The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a travel warning following an outbreak of a mosquito-borne illness called chikungunya in China. The CDC's warning centers on Guangdong Province, where the outbreak has exceeded 7,000 confirmed cases since June 2025, according to Chinese health officials.

An outbreak of the mosquito-borne virus in southern China has led to a pandemic-style response as authorities try to contain the spread.

On August 1, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a Level 2 travel notice, urging people to “practice enhanced precautions” when traveling to China. The agency also issued a travel notice for outbreaks in Bolivia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Réunion, Somalia and Sri Lanka.
