The National Weather Service announced Wednesday that a temporary NOAA Weather Radio transmitter for Galveston will be back on the air by August 31, more than four months after a fire destroyed the original equipment in March.

A large blaze destroyed the full-time transmitter back on March 25th, along with the shelter in place for it. Officials say they are continuing to work on installing a permanent transmitter and shelter,
