J.M. Smucker reported better-than-expected quarterly profit on cost-cutting, higher prices, and the addition of Hostess Brands to its portfolio of foods.

The J.M. Smucker Company ( NYSE: SJM) reported a 0.9% year-over-year decrease in sales in FQ4 to $2.21 billion. Sales excluding the acquisition of Hostess Brands, divestitures, and foreign currency exchange increased 3%.

J.M. Smucker’s stock nudged higher Thursday, after the consumer foods company beat quarterly profit expectations, as the recent acquisition of Hostess Brands and lower costs helped offset a surprise dip in sales.
