U.S. military strikes overnight in which President Donald Trump said Iran's main nuclear sites were "obliterated" will put to the test the widely held view that such attacks can delay a nuclear programme but not kill a determined push for atom bombs.

The images have been released during a debate over the extent of the damage from the U.S. airstrikes on the facility, which followed days of Israeli strikes on the country.

Iran on Wednesday officially suspended its cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog, a move triggered by the unprecedented Israeli and US strikes on its nuclear facilities.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told CBS News he doubts negotiations with the U.S. will resume quickly, but isn't shutting down the idea of diplomacy in the near future. "No one exactly knows what has transpired in Fordow. That being said, what we know so far is that the facilities have been seriously and heavily damaged," Araghchi said
