St. Louis city counselor Sheena Hamilton sent a letter Aug. 19 to Kia and Hyundai, demanding the companies take responsibility for the thefts and threatened a lawsuit over the defect.

The St. Cloud Police Department said Thursday there have been 30 car thefts or theft attempts "over the past several weeks," with many of them being notoriously vulnerable Kia or Hyundai models.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- While Kia and Hyundai's anti-theft software upgrades have helped deter car thieves, it's still a challenge the St. Joseph Police Department is actively following.
