The National Hurricane Center is watching an area of disturbed weather in the northwestern Caribbean Sea that has a low chance of developing in the Gulf over the next week.

Barry is expected to produce heavy rainfall in northeastern Mexico. Life-threatening flooding and mudslides are possible. The Hurricane Center is also tracking a disturbance in northern Florida, which forecasters say has a 20% chance of formation in the next seven days.

The depression is expected to strengthen over the next 24 hours, likely to hit the Mexican coastline Monday as Tropical Storm Barry.

A tropical depression has formed in the Gulf, and it could become the second tropical storm of 2025 by Sunday. The National Hurricane Center on Saturday afternoon said Tropical Depression Two formed in the southern Gulf, or Bay of Campeche, and issued a tropical storm warning for part of Mexico’s Gulf Coast.
