The US vice president is beginning his UK holiday with a visit to the foreign secretary. Since when were they so close?

JD Vance and his family are spending two nights at the country residence of the British foreign secretary, David Lammy, with whom he has a somewhat unlikely friendship.

British foreign minister David Lammy and JD Vance talked Gaza during a meeting on Friday as the US vice president kicked off his holiday in the United Kingdom.

Vance will be a guest of the UK foreign secretary at his official residence Chevening, in Kent.

JD Vance poked fun at David Lammy after the pair were snapped fishing together at the Foreign Secretary's country retreat. The US Vice President has begun his UK family holiday with a visit to Chevening in Kent.

Mr Lammy is reported to have attended mass at the vice president’s Washington residence during a visit in March.
