Newsom and the State of California filed suit against Trump, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the Department of Defense over the National Guard being sent to the state to quell protests over immigration raids.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is calling on the federal government to disclose how much American taxpayers paid for the Trump administration’s controversial deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles earlier this year.

Federalizing the National Guard for protests has been rare in American history, and when it has happened, it has often been remembered as controversial,” said Hinckley Institute of Politics director Jason Perry.
