How much longer that will remain the case is uncertain, with Pete Alonso on the cusp of breaking the record that Strawberry set over eight seasons (1983-1990) in Queens, but the Mets great isn’t bemoaning his impending displacement from a franchise record.

Strawberry is best remembered for his time with the Mets, with whom he won the National League Rookie of the Year and was named to seven All-Star teams. He is also in the Mets Hall of Fame, and his No. 18 uniform number is retired.
