DeSantis announced plans to convert a shuttered North Florida prison into an immigration detention center, replacing a costlier proposed site.

The second detention center will support the “Alligator Alcatraz” facility opened in South Florida in early July, state officials said.

DeSantis justified opening the second detention center, dubbed "Deportation Depot" by the state, by saying President Donald Trump's administration needs the additional capacity to hold and deport more immigrants.
