The Kennedy Center’s Opera House may soon be named after First Lady Melania Trump, if an amendment passed Tuesday by House Republicans becomes law.

The House Appropriations Committee considered legislation Tuesday calling for the theater to be renamed as the “First Lady Melania Trump Opera House.” Representative Mike Simpson, a Republican from Idaho, introduced the proposal as an amendment to an Interior Department funding bill.

Republicans have proposed naming the opera house at the Kennedy Center after First Lady Melania Trump. The proposal was part of an amendment offered by Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID) as the House Appropriations Committee considered an appropriations bill for the coming fiscal year. Simpson cited Trump’s support for the arts.
