Down in Double-A Somerset, right-hander Luis Gil made the first start of his highly-anticipated rehab assignment, his first in-game appearance since he hurt his lat in spring training. The reigning Rookie of the Year in the American League threw 50 pitches, working 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts, two hits and a walk.

Gil, 27, was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2024 but has been sidelined all season. During spring training, he reported tightness in his pitching shoulder and eventually was diagnosed with a high-grade lat strain.
