Max Holloway's hopes for a rematch with Ilia Topuria are on hold. Holloway revealed he injured his hand during his UFC 318 win over Dustin Poirier and will be sidelined until 2026. Holloway had hoped an impressive win against Poirier would vault him into lightweight title contention.

As much as the UFC 318 crowd was pulling for the retiring Dustin Poirier, Max Holloway is still a certified "BMF."

Prior to his victory over Poirier, Holloway was stopped via strikes for the first time in his career by the now lightweight champion Ilia Topuria at UFC 308 this past October. Topuria vacated the 145-pound belt after stopping Holloway, and then brutally knocked out Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 317 in June to capture his second title.

As far as Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier are concerned, an extra $50,000 should've come their way for their efforts in the UFC 318 main event.

Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23- 8 UFC) retained his BMF title by outlasting the retiring Dustin Poirier (30-10 MMA, 22-9 UFC) in Saturday's main event at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Holloway had Poirier in trouble a couple of times and outstruck "The Diamond" over the course of the fight. Cormier was very impressed with Holloway's performance.
