Starting quarterback Justin Herbert has stepped up and decided whether he will play in the Los Angeles Chargers’ preseason, in which Jim Harbaugh had chosen to give backup Trey Lance the reps.

The Chargers won their first preseason game, the Hall of Fame game against the Detroit Lions, with Trey Lance and rookie quarterback DJ Uiagalelei getting reps under center. Lance played the majority of the snaps, throwing for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 13-of-20 passing.

The Bolts quarterback will start Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said Thursday morning, which means Herbert is in line to make his first-ever preseason appearance. "We're going to play starters on Saturday," Harbaugh said.
