The first officially recognized pilgrimage of LGBTQ Catholics to Rome comes as gay Catholics look to Pope Leo XIV to continue down the bold path of his predecessor to welcome into the church a group that has in the past faced alienation and sometimes harsh treatment.

Hundreds of LGBTQ+ Catholics joiedn Holy Year pilgrimage in Rome, and welcomed by Church leaders and crediting Popes Francis and Leo for inclusion.

Some wept as they walked through the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica in the rite of passage of Holy Year pilgrims.

Some 1,400 LGBTQ+ people are taking part for the first time in a pilgrimage to mark the Vatican's Jubilee Year.

Donning rainbow attire, 1400 Catholics, with a cross in their hands, visited Rome as their first officially recognised event for the LGBTQ plus community members to mark the Vatican's Jubilee Year.
