The Gifford Fire in eastern San Luis Obispo County grew to over 114,000 acres overnight. As of Sunday morning, the fire had reached 114,621 acres and remained 21% contained, according to a status update from Cal Fire.

Firefighters continue to increase containment over the more than 100,000 acres burned by the Gifford Fire as of Saturday morning in San Luis Obispo County. At 104,402 acres, the fire was now 21% contained, according to an update to Inciweb.

The map above shows Gifford’s evacuation area in red and the approximate fire perimeter as a black line. Shown as a gray tone is the perimeter of last month’s Madre Fire, previously the biggest fire of the year; it burned 80,779 acres in the Carrizo Plain area, just east of Gifford.

Planned work on Highway 101 in southern San Luis Obispo County has been postponed due to the Gifford Fire. According to Caltrans, work was scheduled to begin Sunday on both directions of Highway 101 roughly two miles north of the Santa Maria River Bridge, but it has now been delayed.

The Gifford Fire has now burned more than 100,000 acres, according to the latest mapping by Intel aircraft. As of Friday afternoon, the fire spanning San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties had blackened a total of 104,

The Gifford Fire, the largest California wildfire of 2025 so far, was nearing 100,000 acres and had already injured at least seven people.
