General Motors has filed a trademark for Hyper Cruise for autonomous driving technology, implying a possible evolution of the Super Cruise hands-free system.
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) is a legacy automaker and one of the oldest companies still operating. The firm purchased Cruise, a pioneer in autonomous vehicle technology, back in 2016.
GM is expanding its partnership with NVIDIA to integrate AI, simulation, and high-performance computing power into its vehicle development and manufacturing.
This confirms that GM will not license an autonomous driving system but aims to develop one in-house, using the know-how it gained with Cruise robotaxis and Ultra Cruise hands-free driving system.
