San Francisco's tourism industry, a critical pillar of the city's economy, showed troubling signs over the July Fourth holiday weekend, traditionally one of the busiest times of the year.

Anna Marie Presutti, CEO of the San Francisco Travel Association, also said 2024 was an especially "tough year" for the destination. "I'm really happy that 2024 is over," she added.

As a measure of the magnitude of tourism’s impact, visitor spending in San Francisco is projected to increase to $9.41 billion, up from $9.26 billion last year, the association said.
