Donald Trump said on Tuesday the Wall Street Journal and its billionaire owner Rupert Murdoch want to settle the U.S. president's defamation lawsuit against the newspaper.

Trump has sued Murdoch and The Wall Street Journal over its July 17 article alleging the president sent a “bawdy” letter to Epstein for his 50th birthday, which included a drawing of a naked woman and Trump telling the late financier, “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”

Trump sued the Journal, owned by Murdoch, is U.S. District Court in southern Florida on July 18 for its story reporting on the Republican president’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and alleged child sex trafficker who died in a New York jail in 2019 before trial.

Trump says he personally told his "very good friend Rupert Murdoch" that he had not sent a racy birthday greeting two decades ago to Jeffrey Epstein. Murdoch's Journal reported it anyway.
