Microsoft makes another 40 layoffs in Washington, bringing the total in its home state to 3,160 since May, part of 15,000+ cuts globally.

After months of layoffs, it looks like Microsoft isn’t done. The company let go of dozens in Washington on Monday.

Microsoft had already revealed plans to lay off more than 6,000 employees in May, followed by another 9,000 in July. So far in 2025, Microsoft has eliminated 3,160 jobs in Washington state alone.

Microsoft has laid off 40 more employees in Washington, bringing its total job cuts in the state this year to 3,160. The layoffs come as the company continues to invest billions in artificial intelligence infrastructure despite reporting record profits.

The cuts come as Microsoft has continued to post robust earnings, with its market briefly cresting above $4 trillion last week.
