Hamtramck council places city manager on leave amid accusations of ethnic bias City manager Max Garbarino defended placing the police chief on leave and said that there may be ethnic bias against him.

After the May 8 memo circulated, Garbarino placed Altaheri and Adamczyk on leave on May 21. Garbarino told the Free Press on May 27 that Adamczyk had written the memo accusing Altaheri.

Garbarino, who was placed on leave by city council on May 27, 2025, and Ghalib are now in a dispute over allegations of corruption. Garbarino on May 21 placed the police chief on leave.
