CHICAGO — A federal judge on Friday denied former Illinois Speaker Michael Madigan’s legal arguments that he should remain out of prison while his appeal of both his corruption convictions and 7 ½ year sentence play out.

Michael Madigan (D), whose formidable tenure as Speaker of the Illinois House ended amid a federal corruption investigation, must report to prison while he appeals his convictions, a Chicago federal judge ruled Friday.

A federal judge on Friday denied bond for ex-House Speaker Michael Madigan pending his appeal on corruption charges, a decision that was widely expected and means Madigan will have to report to prison in October — at least as it stands now.

Legal experts had predicted the judge would deny Madigan's request. However, the former Illinois House Speaker can make the same request to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
