Mike Muscala is a big part of Philadelphia 76ers lore. Along with being a solid player for the Sixers averaging 7.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in the 47 games he played for the team in the 2018-19 season, he also made the shot that allowed the Sixers to draft current star guard Tyrese Maxey.

The Suns intend to hire former NBA forward/center Mike Muscala as an assistant coach, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype ( Twitter link ). Muscala, 34, retired as a player last summer after 11 years in the NBA.

Former Boston Celtics backup big man Mike Muscala is making the leap to the other side of the clipboard to join the Phoenix Suns as an assistant coach, according to recent reporting from HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. Per Scotto, new Suns head coach Jordan Ott previously worked with Muscala when the two were both with the Atlanta Hawks.

NBA writer Michael Scotto reported, "The Phoenix Suns will add Mike Muscala as an assistant coach, sources told @hoopshype." Muscala will return to the NBA, coaching for the first time at age 34. His last stint as a player was with the Thunder back in the 2023-24 NBA season, as he retired after that season concluded.

He joins the Suns after four seasons with the Orlando Magic where he helped the team elevate from a 21-51 record the season before his arrival to back-to-back playoff appearances and top-three finishes in Defensive Rating.
