Invest 97L is moving quickly west across the Atlantic and AccuWeather forecasters predict it will become a hurricane later this week. If it does, it would become the first hurricane of the 2025 season. The average date for the first hurricane is Aug. 11.

The National Hurricane Center has tagged another area of interest. This time, in the Gulf. Right now, it has a very low chance of development, but it could bring heavy rain to the Florida Panhandle. Meanwhile, out in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Erin is gaining strength.

As the Invest 96-L disturbance decreases in its chances of tropical development, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is now monitoring a new tropical wave emerging off the western coast of Africa for the possibility of development.
