One of the biggest questions heading into the 49ers’ 2023 season is who will be the team’s starting quarterback. Trey Lance was promoted to the starting role last year, but he only played in two games before an ankle injury ended his season.

Purdy is set to begin a throwing program within the next three months, but 49ers general manager John Lynch gave him a vote of confidence.

GM John Lynch talked about the quarterback situation in San Francisco on Monday, and Brock Purdy is at the top as of right now to be the leader in the locker room.

That said, Lynch also heaped praise onto Purdy, who is recovering from offseason elbow surgery, and dubbed him "the leader in the clubhouse" as it relates to which player may have the inside track at eventually getting the job.

The 49ers plan a three-way quarterback competition this season, but not all three quarterbacks are starting on equal footing — at least not if Brock Purdy is healthy. That’s the word from 49ers General Manager John Lynch,
