GM produced a hybrid version from 2009 to 2019. The Malibu's most recent iteration made its debut back in 2016.

The Associated Press called the Malibu the last midsize car made by GM.

GM's factory in Kansas City, Kansas, which now makes the Malibu and the Cadillac XT4 small SUV, will stop making the Malibu in November and the XT4 in January. The plant will get a $390 million retooling to make a new version of the Chevrolet Bolt small electric car.

General Motors will end production of its Chevrolet Malibu sedan as it shifts its focus on electric vehicles. The Kansas plant will now produce the next-gen Chevy Bolt.
