Al Shaver, a media honoree in the Hockey Hall of Fame and longtime radio voice of the Minnesota North Stars, has died at the age of 96. Shaver was the 1993 recipient of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award in recognition of those in radio and television who made outstanding contributions to their profession and hockey as selected by the NHL Broadcasters' Association.

Hockey broadcaster Bob Cole, the voice of "Hockey Night in Canada" for nearly a half century, died Wednesday at age 90, according to his daughter Megan Cole.

T ORONTO -- Bob Cole, the voice of hockey in Canada for a half century who served as the soundtrack for some of the national sport's biggest moments, has died. He was 90.

Allen Shaver, the play-by-play announcer of the Minnesota North Stars for over 20 years, has died at 96 years old.

He didn’t follow the Stars to Dallas, instead staying in Minnesota to broadcast to the Gophers for three seasons.

Shaver worked in many roles during his 48-year broadcasting career but is most commonly known as the voice of the Minnesota North Stars.
