The latest iPhone software update is now live, landing on Monday, May 13. Normally, I’d have posted this analysis of how the new release has been received sooner but, as we’ll see, there’s already been one curious effect for some users, who have complained that long-deleted photos have been popping back into view.

A new game called Quartiles has been added alongside the crossword puzzles Apple had already brought to its news app in iOS 17.5. The tile-based word game is only available in the U.S. and Canada, though.

Apple has just released iOS 17.5 for iPhones. This is a big update, one of the last before attention turns to iOS 18 in four weeks’ time. Apple released a major iOS 17.5 update with critical security features and also UI (user interface) improvements to iPhones. The new update brings Cross-Platform Tracking Detection. With this feature turned on, iPhones can alert the owner if they are being illegally followed using third-party Bluetooth trackers.
