An experimental procedure could reduce levels of a hunger-triggering hormone by burning part of a person's stomach lining, a new study reports.

A woman has lost a significant amount of weight after undergoing a minimally-invasive procedure called endoscopic ablation.

Brooke Nelson said she was over 200 pounds and struggling to lose weight when she decided to take part in a clinical trial of a new, minimally-invasive weight loss procedure. Within six months of the procedure, Nelson said she had lost over 20 pounds and changed how she thinks about food.

The future of weight loss is looking more varied by the second. This week, scientists have reported the preliminary findings of a small trial testing out a novel, non-surgical procedure for obesity—one that works by burning part of the mucus-filled lining of the stomach.

The new procedure is non-surgical with a short recovery period, and caused an average weight loss of almost 20 pounds after six months.
