Dollar slips after unexpected rise in US producer prices
The dollar edged lower on Tuesday following an unexpected increase in U.S. producer prices in April amid strong gains in the costs of goods and services, indicating inflation remained stubbornly high early in the second quarter.
Producer price index up 1.9% in April, from 1.6% in March
Malaysia’s producer price index (PPI), which measures the price changes of goods at the producer level, increased by 1.9% year-on-year (y-o-y) in April , says the Statistics Department.
April PPI: U.S. wholesale prices rose 0.5%, exceeding expectations
The Labor Department said on Tuesday that wholesale prices in April jumped to 2024 highs, essentially dashing any hope for an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve.
