First Quarter Economic Growth Revised Downward on Weaker Consumer Spending
Consumer spending slowed in the first quarter, bringing economic growth down to a 1.3% annual rate, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said as it released its second estimate of gross domestic product on Thursday. The number matched forecasts and is down from the advance estimate of 1.6%. The economy expanded by 3.4% in the fourth quarter.
