Arson Suspect Arrested in San Diego County for Series of 8 Fires Set Between Encinitas & Carlsbad Along Coastal North County

A suspect in a string of fires in downtown L.A. was arrested. One blaze required 170 firefighters to extinguish and caused $7 million in damage.

Victor Marias, 31, is being held without bail after he was taken into custody on Thursday, jail records show. He was on active probation for setting a fire at a building in the same area back in Aug.

Additionally, Cristobal allegedly set eight separate fires from Sept. 21-Oct.11 near two different construction sites between Highway 101 and the train tracks in the cities of Encinitas and Carlsbad, according to detectives from the sheriff's office. The total damage was estimated at more than $700,000, officials said.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of setting a series of fires in the past four weeks along coastal North County that sheriff’s detectives estimate have caused more than $700,000 in damage.

The sheriff's office identified the suspect as Winston Cristobal, 27, and the Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit put him in custody on suspicion of arson, vandalism and trespassing.
