The passage of President Donald Trump's $4.5 trillion tax breaks and spending cuts bill in the United States House Thursday prompted various reactions from lawmakers and officials in North Carolina.

The House on Thursday passed the signature piece of legislation of President Trump's second term, approving his "big, beautiful bill" by a vote of 218 to 214.

Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote in the evenly split 50-50 chamber, securing the bill's Senate passage.

Now, House representatives are voting on another procedural measure, which would allow them to open debate and then move to a final vote for passage. As midnight has passed, five Republicans have so far voted no - two more than House Speaker Mike Johnson can afford.
