Since filing for bankruptcy for a second time in May, Rite Aid has announced the closings of 1,070 of its stores.

Most of Rite Aid’s more than 1,200 stores are expected to close. Rite Aid announced that it had entered into agreements for its pharmacy assets of more than 1,000 stores across the country.

The ongoing closure of pharmacies across the country continues to threaten Americans' access to vital medications.

At that time, Rite Aid announced plans to close more than 150 stores. The company sold its pharmacy prescriptions to other pharmacy retailers at more than 1,000 locations across the country.

Store closing signs covered the windows at the Rite Aid on Cedar and Gettysburg in northeast Fresno on Friday.

Rite Aid has announced hundreds of stores slated for closure since the company filed for bankruptcy in early May. Since then, more than 700 stores have been targeted.

The number of Rite Aid stores closing in the U.S. just jumped by 125, adding to the growing list of locations set to shutter amid the pharmaceutical giant's second bankruptcy filing in May.

Waves of store closures continue for Rite Aid as the company continues with bankruptcy proceedings. Twenty-one more Washington stores are on the chopping block.
