The FDA has upgraded its ongoing egg recall to class 1, the most serious classification for recalls.More than 4 million eggs, supplied by Milo’s Poultry Farms, were voluntarily recalled in early September due to potential Salmonella contamination.

A nationwide recall of eggs due to salmonella contamination has now been classified as a "health hazard situation" by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. More than 60 people across nine states have become sickened by the eggs.

If you have recalled eggs from any of the listed distributors, they should be immediately thrown away. Any surfaces the eggs may have touched should be thoroughly sanitized, including utensils, containers, and your hands. If you suspect you’ve eaten eggs contaminated by salmonella, contact your doctor right away.

At least two people in California fell ill with a salmonella infection after eating eggs that have been linked to a Wisconsin company, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The original recall notification stated 65 people in nine states were infected with salmonella linked to eggs supplied by Milo's Poultry Farms LLC.

Nearly a month after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an initial recall of eggs produced by a Wisconsin-based farm, the agency has upgraded its recall to Class 1, its highest categorization.

It doesn’t matter the size, egg type, or expiration date, says the FDA; all eggs fall under the recall. Samples taken from the hen house and the processing facility matched the strains identified in the lab testing done by the CDC on the infected patients.
