Two human smugglers who were convicted of causing the deaths of 53 migrants whom they were trying to sneak into the U.S. in a sweltering hot tractor trailer were sentenced today.

Authorities who discovered the trailer on June 27, 2022, found 64 migrants inside. Forty-eight were already dead, and 16 others were taken to hospitals, where five later died.
