Leaders in St. Petersburg plan to take a crucial vote Thursday on the approval of bonds needed to finance the city's portion of a new stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays.
St. Petersburg City Council approves bonds for Rays stadium, Gas Plant
Driscoll, along with council members Deborah Figgs-Sanders, Copley Gerdes and Brandi Gabbard, voted to take out bonds to finance $287.5 million for the stadium and $142 million for roads and sewers in the Gas Plant. Council members Lisset Hanewicz, Richie Floyd and John Muhammad voted no.
Rays may not get new stadium in 2028, or at all, after vote to approve bonds postponed again
The significant uncertainty has led to questions about the Rays leaving St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay region following the 2025 season.
