US Initial Jobless Claims Rise to Highest Level Since OctoberInitial claims increased by 8,000 to 247,000 in the week ended May 31, a period that included Memorial Day. The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists called for 235,000 applications.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 230,000 claims for the latest week. Unadjusted claims increased 10,742 to 212,506 last week, lifted by a 3,329 jump in filings in Michigan.
