No-Knead Crusty Artisan Bread\nCook Time: 45 minutes\n\nYield: 1 loaf\n\nIngredients\n\n3 cups all-purpose flour\n1 1/2 cups luke-warm water\n1-2 tsp sea salt, depending on your preference\n1 tsp yeast\n\nIn a large bowl, stir together the flour, salt and yeast. Add the water and using a wooden spoon stir together until the mixture resembles a shaggy dough.\nCover dough with a plastic wrap and let sit in room temperature for 8-18 hours. Dough will bubble up and rise.\nAfter dough is ready, preheat oven to 450 F.\nTurn the dough onto a well-floured surface and with floured hands form the dough into a ball. Cover with the plastic wrap and let the dough rest.\nWhile dough is resting, put your dutch oven into the preheated oven for 30 minutes.\nAfter the 30 minutes are up carefully remove the dutch oven and with floured hands place the bread dough into it. (You can put a piece of parchment under it if your dutch oven doesn't have an enamel coating, but I used the cast iron LODGE dutch oven and the bread comes right out, parchment paper is not necessary.)\nReplace the cover and bake for 30 minutes covered. Then remove the cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes uncovered. Bread will be golden, crusty and delicious!\n\nMake sure to wipe out your dutch oven with paper towels, then take a clean paper towel and oil it with vegetable oil. No need to wash with soap and water after making bread, though you probably want to wash it after making stew or soup. After washing, dry thoroughly, then oil it with a paper towel. This dutch oven will last longer than you will!

Bought the 5 quart Dutch oven and it arrived yesterday. Cast iron is definitely not indestructible. Today as I rinsed and dried it before adding a bit more oil to season it after its trip, I saw that one of the handles has a long chunk broken out. I checked the box inside the shipping box and neither looks abused. We're iced in so trying to return it is not in the cards. Hoping the exposed inner membrane won't affect cooking. Dang ... hate damage.\n\nOk, you all want to know about the item, not my complaint. I cook by sight, not measure, so wasn't sure if I needed the 5 or 7 quart. The non-stick pot I've used for 20 years is really too big so I gambled and chose 5 quart. I love the size. Ideal for cooking for 2 to 4 people with up to six for soups and beans. WIN! It is heavy and pretty much all I want to try to move empty. Have your destination cleared and ready for it when you move it. It sits flat on my electric glass burner. No wobble. It appears to heat evenly. Lid sits securely. Chucking out a few old pots and skillets as this looks very multipurpose. Looking forward to receiving the skillets I ordered, too.\n\nRated at 4 stars for Damage. Otherwise would be a solid 5 stars.

I love cooking with cast iron, and I own a lot of Lodge products; everything from cast iron, to porcelain, to steel, and it would be safe to say that there is not a single one that do not like. This Dutch oven is no exception, the day after I got it I cooked a six plus pound pot roast, and needless to say it came out perfect.\n\nI would have given this a full five star rating, however, with my last couple Lodge purchases I have noticed that the factory seasoning has not been up to par. In this case, the telltale signs of oxidation appeared immediately after I cleaned it. This is not a big deal for me since I religiously apply an ultra-thin coat of cooking oil to my cast iron immediately after cleaning. Unfortunately, it does indicate a fault in Lodge’s factory seasoning process, which seems to be a more recent problem since none of the Lodge Logic products that I purchased right after they introduced the process exhibit any rust whatsoever. Hopefully they are aware of this issue, and will correct it straightaway. Until then, don’t fear buying, if you take care of it as instructed, it will provide many generations of great cooking.\n\nHope this helps you.

I've never owned a large cooking pot beyond a $10 stockpot and some low-end nonstick saucepans. I can't get over how well this thing performs, how easy it is to use, and how easy it is to maintain. It brings liquids to a boil pretty quickly, retains heat VERY well, and seems to distribute the heat pretty evenly as well (at least compared to my cheap stockpot). In terms of volume, cooking for myself, I can usually get 3-4 good meals out of it. For bread, 500g is a good quantity, and it produced outstanding crust at 450F for 30 mins +15 mins w/o lid. To clean it I just use soap and water, dry, then use a paper towel to spread a little oil all over it, heat it on high til it just starts to smoke, then turn off the heat. If you bake bread regularly you will season it this way as well. Between this and my cast iron skillet I really don't feel like I need much more in the way of cookware.

They do save you time when you receive your beautiful lodge product. It comes pre-season. It does have some weight to it. It’s great for your home. But even better if you are on the road. Place it in your RV or out in the woods as you go camping. I use my big 7 quarts to slow cook a turkey or fry fish for dinner or make a nice apple pie or fry donuts for dessert. I actually purchased the 7 quarts after 5 quarts. You think you might need a larger size. Get the 7 quartz. It does makes difference. That extra 2 quarts. The 5 quarts did not have the depth while I fried my homemade donuts. The 5 quarts would get them slight darker marks due to touching the bottom of the lodge cast iron pot. But I have plenty of usage for pots. Love-love

With proper care, seasoning after each use, these pieces will develop a non-stick surface and likely outlive me!\nThe set offers a variety of uses in my kitchen. The Dutch oven is a practical size - not too big, or too small, for batches of soup, stew, chile or a pot roast. The round griddle is perfect for quesadillas, a medium tortilla fits perfectly. Of course, everything can transfer from stove top to oven. I can even use each piece to cook on the surface of my wood stove on these cold winter days.\nI originally set out to purchase just the round griddle which is included in this set. The value of purchasing the entire set could not be overlooked.\nBonus - made in the USA!

I love cooking with Cast Iron and had been looking for a good cast iron dutch oven. I had looked at quite a few stores but I wanted one that was made in America. I did an internet search and found the brand Lodge was the "only" cast iron made in the USA. I went to their web site and was going to purchase from there, but decided to find if I could buy it a little less expensive on a different site. I found that Wal-mart sold the Lodge brand and not only that, but it was also $20.00 less expensive than from the Lodge website. I used it already to bake some bread in and it turned out so good. I'm quite happy with my purchase and even happier that I saved so much buying from Wal-mart.

The best in cast iron pans and pots! If you're one of the reviewers whose pot rusted, you're not caring for it properly. You can wash these with soap and water or use the traditional "dry scrub and wipe" method--either way is legit. Personally, I always wash mine with soap and water after use because I think eating decades-old grease is really gross. To each his own. But if you use soap and water, you have to dry the pot thoroughly, apply a thin coat of vegetable oil, and put it in a 350-degree oven for 10 minutes to bake the oil onto the surface. THEN cool it and store it. If you leave iron unprotected, of course it will rust!

This is such a great, versatile piece of cookware, useful for so many things. It's great for baking bread, roasting, making stews, and deep frying. You can use it on the stove, in the oven, on the grill or campfire. It will last for generations, and with continued use, the flavors of the food you cook in it will gain more complexity and depth.\n\nEven though Lodge cookware comes "pre-seasoned", it's a good idea to add another layer or two of seasoning before you actually cook with it. Or just cook with a lot of extra fat on the first few uses. A couple of sessions of deep frying worked pretty well.

The dutch oven is the perfect size. The cast iron is beautiful and smooth. I like the self-basting lid, however you need to be diligent to ensure the lid is completely dry and both the dutch oven and lid are cooled before storing them otherwise they sweat and you end up with rust on the lid that drips into the pot. I've not experienced this with my other cast iron, maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe the lids design is more prone to it. Overall a real quality product and I'm very happy with my purchase.

I had forgotten how wonderful a dutch oven is to cook with. Retains so much more moisture than other means of cooking that you will be inclined to use more liquid than you will need. Stays warm a long time and is hot all over. Person needs to be aware of that. Some instructions with purchase is recommended for first time users so they don't accidently burn themselves. I went with this rustic look as it is indestructible. Enamel coverings are prettier but can be damaged during cooking and cleaning.

Good quality as expected from Lodge. Convenient size, fits on the grill with the lid closed but big enough to fit a whole 3lb bag of potatoes. The factory seasoning is great, but I went ahead and put two more coats on. Especially important on the inside of the lid, which gets a lot of condensation when cooking. My only complaint about this is that the self-basting bumps on the inside of the lid are annoying if you oil with a paper towel, they tear it up. It's a minor complaint though.
