First of all, be sure this model of scanner will be compatible with your computer. I use a Windows 7 laptop, love it -- I don't like change. I am the person that wants archival scans, as close as to the original photo as possible! This scanner has not disappointed! Tips to get the archive scans (for photos)... When you launch the program, make sure it's selected to photo, for the document type. Next, make sure you've selected "color" for the image type, not black and white, or gray-scale, even if the photo is black and white, you will always want to scan it in color, not doing so is going to loose detail and fine precision from your original. Then, go to your configuration button, select the middle box that says color -- don't mess with anything except go down and select "no color correction", then hit ok. Finally, go into your "file save settings" -- located next to the scan button. I scan in BMP, it makes a large file, but they're best to conserve my images. If you want to do Jpeg, click on the "options" button and drag your quality setting to the highest one and click ok. On your resolution selections, never scan anything below 600dpi, just don't, it's not preserving your memories if you scan lower than 600dpi. I scan 4x6's, 5x7's and 8x10's at 600dpi, unless it's a treasured one and then I do 1200dpi, for small photos, very old and really needing the details salvaged, always do 1200dpi, I have done up to 1600dpi, for really important photos that if lost I need the quality! These options are for the archival scan purposes! Using any of the auto settings, or color correction, dust removal, is never recommended. I often have my old photos restored and colorized and you want to get your quality right, use auto settings is not going to properly save your image for the future. This scanner is also very lightweight -- I kept the box and without the packing materials inside, I can easily slip both the scanner and my laptop in the box together when I visit relatives to scan photos. We all have relative that don't like their pictures to leave their house, take this with you and have success with saving your family history!

I love this scanner - easy to use (Epson Scan program is simple + effective), light weight, doesn't take up much space and works great. Only gave 4 stars b/c after 6 years of moderate use, the driver belt (is split for some reason) and got caught on the scanner carriage, which caused a kink and now it catches every time. Cannot be fixed (maybe I can get replacement part for whole scanner body in the same unit?), but had to buy a new one. Epson - better design w/ the right belt sturdier like the left and no split (not sure if this is purposeful or glue that came undone) - single layer!

My first impression of it was that it was very plastic and not made to last. As far as performance for scanning however, I thought it worked quite well. I was not disappointed with scans of photographs, and also of documents. They were very sharp and clear. It should be noted the scans are relatively slow. If you have a lot to scan, this isn't the machine for you. If this machine is being used for occasional scans though, you will be happy with the results you get. Considering the price, the machine is very competitive for the results it produces.

This product was exactly as it was portrayed. It was delivered 4 days prior to the estimated delivery date. I would have given a 5-star rating, but I do not find the Walmart Departments, Services, etc. user-friendly, so there is room for improvement. I have only once had a delivery "on-time". I have had them early as above, and delayed. I have no solution, but a very useful improvement would be a more accurate delivery estimate.

I was looking for a straightforward scanner for my home office to use with my iMac. When connected, it is fairly quick and very simple to use. Some minor problems (but annoying) to get it to be recognized and start-up without rebooting the computer or disconnecting/reconnecting the usb cable. Not sure what is causing it but as indicated, when connected it is a great little scanner.

You can scan multiple photos at one time, so it really speeds up the process.\nThere is also a utility included to fix flaws, errors and color balance automatically.\n\nHowever, DO NOT download the driver from Epson USA website. It contains malware.\nDownload instead from the Australian Epson website. It is a clean file.\n\nOtherwise, great scanner.

I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to spend a lot of of time with tech support to get this to work with my IMac. Shouldnt be like that. In the end everything was resolved so I am happy. A sleek, simple and inexpensive bit of hardware. If you are looking for an economical scanner this would be a good purchase.

I recently bought this scanner. It was in the price range that I wanted to spend and had good recommendations from on-line reviews before I made the purchase. The quality of the scans of my old photos are pretty good, but not great. I'm keeping some of the original printed photos because they look better than the scans.

This scammer is a great value and does an excrement job scanning both photos and documents, and direct uploading to Google photos is awesome. My only complaint, and the reason I a not giving it a four star rating, is that it's program is not set up in an intuitive way, making for a lot of guesswork and trial and error.

Just finished testing out the scanner. Simple instructions to down load the software, really. Fast enough scan to do the many photos I have to scan. Easy buttons and guides you as the where to save the scans. A person may find it a bit noisy but I don't find it an issue. worth the money spent.

Only 2 weeks old and used it three times so far. The final result is good but the process is a bit loud. It is convenient for everyday use if no frills are required. Had to call and get help to set it up as the instructions did not seem clear. They were helpful and took the time to help me.

I bought the device two years ago. With the software upgrade the scanner software has gone from clunky with a learning curve to easy and intuitive. I tend to store the scanner away when not in use. Being light makes this a simple process. The scanner does what it is supposed to do ... hence a 4.

We picked up the V19 as a scanner to help us scan and share photo albums. The scanner does a great job with old photos and brought out details we didn't notice. It is pretty quick and very easy to use. We prefer it over the scanner function on our printer (more convenient). Recommended.

I've tried other scanners and scanning apps. This is the best I have found. The scans are as good as the photo with features allowing enhancements as wanted. Scanning is easy and quick which is important with literally hundreds of photos to preserve and share copies with family members.

Easy to setup and use. Produces excellent scans of colour photos. But, black and white photos scan quality is poor with "Easy Photo Scan" and requires the "Document Capture Pro" software for good quality scans; this is also included in the software package.

I gave it a 4/5 here's why, I had an issue with connecting to my computer and wasn't able to get it work. But walmart quickly replaced the scanner and it arrived within one business day. I'm happy with how they quickly replaced the order.

am enjoying the scanner very much, must go to epson website to download scanner in or for it to work, on the back one side was detached when i removed it from back, back it works very easy and fun.

Bought the scanner mainly for document scanning. The quality of my copied docs is excellent. Tried some photos and was more than happy with results. Very pleSed with this product.

So far so good. The only complaint I have is it cuts off a tiny bit on all four edges of whatever you're scanning. So it's not a true scan of the document or photo.

Does what I needed it to do. DOES NOT WORK WITH CHROMEBOOK so make sure you have a windows pc option.

The Epson Perfection (Model V19 II) is a single-sheet flatbed scanner. Powered by a micro USB port, this is one of the lightest scanners I’ve ever used. The box that it ships in is very well padded, and there are plenty of blue plastic tape straps holding bits and pieces together. The scanner includes some reading material and a USB cable to power the scanner. \n\nThis is not the world's fastest scanner, especially since it is a single-page scanner and not one with an automatic document feeder. That means, on average, it scans about one page every 25 seconds at the lowest scan settings.\n\nSo let's hope you don't make the same mistake I did. First off, this scanner is not detected by Windows 11 by default. Complacency got me to skip reading the manual and head straight to google. Had I read the instructions, the manual asks you to download the software from a particular section of the Epson support website. Because I googled the software drivers, I ended up downloading the wrong drivers. It must be noted that Epson has two scanners, the older V19 and the newer model V19 II. If you download the wrong software, the scanner will not work. So after a few frustrating moments of trying to figure out why my scanner would not be recognized, I realized I had the wrong driver. \n\nIn their infinite wisdom, Epson has not differentiated the two products very well other than marking it as ‘discontinued.’ As of when writing this review, the V19 drivers come up before the V19 II drivers. Even Google tends to link to the older V19 drivers. \n\nThe scanner does well as a sheet bed scanner. The overall scan speed is rapid at lower dots per inch (100-200 dpi), resulting in 10 seconds for a full letter-sized sheet scan, but it takes forever for the scanner head to return to the start point, ending up with a scan time closer to 22 seconds. The native resolution of this scanner is likely about 200 DPI, but it can interpolate an optical resolution at 4800 DPI. The scan speed will drop to a very slow crawl at higher resolutions. For text documents, 100-200 DPI is plenty, / 300+ DPI if you need that crisp archival resolution. For archiving pictures, a minimum of 300 DPI is recommended, but I tend to use 600 DPI will allow for large enough files with enough detail that may be photoshopped later.\n\nSoftware features included with the combined scanner driver and utility combo include the Epson Smartscan and Epson OCR. If you install the Epson Smart Scan software, it allows you to scan directly to PDF and searchable PDF, email, or send it to a printer (to act like a copier) or to a document folder. The four one-touch buttons on the front allow for that feature. By default, the software automatically picks the best mode. Still, if you want to change it up, the Epson Smart Scan software settings allow you to change it to photo mode, bringing about additional features, including restoring fade. \n\nAs a desktop scanner, it is a beautiful device. I love the convenience and lightness of it. I have been scanning childhood photos straight from the albums having taken over my dining table. While the software can break the images automatically, it does not seem to work all that well. You need about an inch gap between images, and you need to keep it away from the sidewalls. That means you can realistically do two 4x6” pictures or three 2x3” pictures at a time if you want to have it automatically save them as individual pictures. If the pictures are already in an album and cannot be removed, the scanner cover makes it easy to put larger books to allow for scanning. This feature is highly underrated when dealing with older photo albums that go back 30-40 years and are fragile. \n\nI found it easier to use Adobe Photoshop to scan the images directly into the environment and break it apart manually. 1. Very lightweight and compact so does not take up a lot of space. \r\n2. Only one cable, USB powered, no need for bulky A/C adapters.\r\n3. It has a built-in kick stand, which allows you to place on table vertically instead of flat.\r\n4. No warm-up time is required, thanks to Epson's ReadyScan LED Technology (from Epson's website). I hadn't used scanners others than the iPhone app for some time so this reminded me the old times when you had to wait 5 minutes for your first scan.\r\n5. Sharp image quality (4800 dpi), adjustable in settings if you need lighter file sizes.\r\n\r\n(1) and (2) make it a great choice for scanning on the go. I carry it in a small backpack toghether with my Macbook Pro with no hassle.\r\n(3) is good for desk real estate optimization\r\n\r\nDisclaimer: I haven't used it for large whole day scanning sessions but after roughly a hundred pictures scanned it is still working perfectly.

I have had this scanner for about a year after deciding I wanted a simple black and white laser printer rather than an all-in-one. After several disappointing experiences with scanners in all-in-ones, I decided to buy a separate scanner. It works better than any all-in-one scanner I have owned and was inexpensive and works seamlessly when I plug in the USB cord to the USB hub attached to our iMac. No separate power cord required. I am very pleased with this scanner and Epson recently upgraded their software to 64-bit so it will work with OS 10.5 Catalina which began rolling out to Mac laptops and desktops in October 2019. Very happy!

This is a great scanner. Just wish I had got one long before now. I had pictures that were over 75 years old and when they were scanned they looked great, better than the original. I had pictures that were dark and the scanned copy was perfect. I am so happy wit this purchase and would definitely recommend. One thing, I read the reviews before I purchased and so I made sure I followed their instructions and downloaded the software before I plugged the scanner into the computer. It worked without any problems from the first scan. I can't wait to order the one for the negatives as I have many old negatives.

I am very satisfied with the V39 scanner. It is portable and easy to store when not in use. Setup was fast. The simple USB plug-in is convenient and the automatic border detection is handy for scanning photos of different sizes. One-button scanning makes the job fast and efficient (about 36 seconds per scan) which is appreciated as I'm digitizing over 1,000 family photos! I also use it for full-size business documents in my home office. I am also very pleased that the product has a 'stitching' function as I plan to digitize a large 80-year-old survey of my parents' home.

I just bought this and have not used it, but it looks really cool. It is all black, it says Epson on it. it came with a cord, with the old samsung looking charger end and the other end with a USB on it. I now own a new black Baggie tie from the cord and the awesome clear bag about 1.5"X3" and I blew it up and popped it scaring the holy crud out of my cat which turned around and clawed me. I deserved it my wife said. I am sure this is going to be fine for putting in pictures and receipts or else I would not have bought it.
