Home office compliment to two corner desks, an executive desk, shelves with door unit, as well as 5 shelf units. When I first got the product(s), I was under the impression that it was already built. However, it is not. But, I will say without reservation, that despite this furniture being ""assemble it yourself"", that I am completely impressed!!!! The finish is amazing. The fitting of pieces is incredibly tight. The sturdiness is phenomenal. This is not your ""bargain basement"" type of furnishings. VERY pleased with this furniture, and this particular unit. Barring my mistakes, assembly went very smoothly. Parts are, with minor exception, clearly identified. Please note, that you can't loose any of the assembly parts. In general the counts, and the quantity provided are dead on. There are no spares. Take your time to assemble, do loose fit first for alignments, then final securing. Should the need arise in the future for more furnishings of this type, Sauder is my ""Go To"", for sure. WELL worth the money.

I have two of these units. They went together exactly how the instructions described -- all the parts were there, and all the holes were in the right places. But I wouldn't recommend this for someone without a good deal of experience with ""assembly required"" items before. It took a few hours -- there are just over 100 screws and nearly 150 parts to put it together -- and being an old guy who's put together lots of stuff, I was able to minimize rework by reading the instructions VERY carefully and anticipating/avoiding potential errors. But I'm very pleased with the finished product.

I would have given 5 stars if not for one oversight. A few months ago I bought the matching desk. I liked it so much that I bought the matching lateral file cabinet. While assembling the file cabinet, I realized that the knobs on the drawers of the file cabinet were bright silver colored while the handles on the desk were oil rubbed bronze. I now have to purchase new knobs so they match the handles on the supposed matching desk which is going to cost me another $30.00. Great file cabinet but the silver knobs with the select cherry finish is an epic fail.

This piece has a home in my home office. The anti-tipping mechanism works well, and the drawers slide in and out easily. Alignment did require some disassembly and realignment (about an hour's work). Not crazy about the use of small nails to attach the back, which is a structural component. Making the alignment adjustments required pulling almost all of those nails back out, then putting them all back in again. But overall, if someone needed a lateral file, I can recommend this one without reservations.

Purchased this unit to replace what I believe was a 20+ year old Sauder two drawer lateral file cabinet. My previous unit was very plain. The new unit looks much classier and I like the rustic look. The new unit appeared on my door step within about 48 hours from the time I placed the order. The unit appears to be well made. One of the reasons I purchased it was because it was made in the USA. The instructions were relatively easy to follow. You just have to make sure you review the entire page before proceeding. It took about 4 hours to assemble. . From personal experience I recommend using leather gloves so you don't get blisters on your hand since they recommend that you don't use a power tool for assembling the unit. . I will definitely purchase other Sauder products in the future.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is good product, however some pieces are not perfect fit. I found one plastic piece, that connects side wall of the drawer to front face, more than 1 mm short (see the image). If, I tight the screw, it will put stress on plastic so I didn't tight the screw all the way in. Lots of steps to follow, but I enjoyed it. Good finishing.

I got it into my entry and then moved the pieces into the upper assembly room. Yes there are a lot of pieces and the Time was a solid 5 to 6 hours at best DONT RUSH IT. Break it up over multiple days if you need to. Read instructions thoroughly, I found them easy to follow. It is well designed and solid when done. It seems bigger then expected but the dimensions are well posted. The interlocking drawers work well and overall I am very impressed and pleased. The color is a bit off as others said it it looks impressive and holds all our family files. I did swap out the draw knobs on mine in the pictures. It makes it match other furniture.

This lateral file replaced 2 metal 2-drawer files. The look is a huge improvement as is the ease of use. The file came securely wrapped in a substantial carton with plenty of fillers to protect and lock in the various pieces. Most importantly, all of the screws, slides and hardware were enclosed in a well marked plastic package. The directions were very clear and well written. The pictures accompanying the written directions were spot on. Completing the lateral file went smoothly and quite easily. A very wonderful, quality experience. The drawer action is smooth and the locking feature, allowing only one drawer to open at a time is a great safety measure. All in all, a great piece of furniture that seconds as a lateral file.

Was fairly easy to put together however the drawers didnt line up perfectly and still do not. I redid the drawers and construction 3x to make sure I followed everything to a tee. But overall it looks nice and to disassemble and return is time consuming.

Took much longer to build than I thought, but the build quality is really impressive & the overall file desk is solid & pretty heavy once built. The directions were great (made in AMERICA) & made sense to me. Went together well. Anyone giving Sauder one-star ratings either received it scratched or probably built their furniture like a novice & complained about it later, but that's not Sauder's fault, from my perspective. You chose to build your own - build it right. I use wood glue for all my joints & my product should last longer than Jenny One-Star who put some parts backwards & complains about it later when it breaks apart prematurely.

Well engineered. Drawers were difficult to assemble, grooves in sides D32 and D33 were not large enough to allow drawer front brackets 10G to slide to align with screw holes. It took me a while to assemble.

We are very, very pleased with these lateral files. They work out perfectly in our home office. They are extremely high quality for the price and look terrific with the other furniture in the room. We hired a handy man to put them together as we are not handy at all and have no patience for these kind of projects. He had a few problems assembling them, called customer service, a real person answered right away and had immediate solutions for his problems. We highly recommend these filing cabinets and highly recommend Sauder.

This lateral file replaces one that we've had for 8 years. So much more room to store files. Matches the desk we previously bought. Assembly took about 7 hours over a couple days. Only problem we ran into was with the screws on the top piece. You are told to not overtighten the screws; however, when we inserted the top drawer & pulled it out, the screws scratched & took out chunks of the top of the drawer. Hoping with time & more use of the drawer this will stop happening. In the meantime, there's always a Sharpie marker!

I bought the desk w/return, file cabinet and bookcase. Overall easy for a carpenter and helper to put together. Two drawers are crooked and will need to be fixed. It's beautiful except for one MAJOR issue. The laminated top already looks used. Two corners are damaged and show white. The material under the laminate should have been colored matched to the top so when the edges of the laminate meet it would not show through. I am extemely unhappy about this as it makes the whole unit look cheap and worn. At a minimum there should be a tube of something sent along with the product to perform cover-ups. I wish I could send along a picture to show the issues.

I use the product(s) in a home office on each side of an American Victorian antique bookcase. The file features and cherry coloring complement the bookcase. Putting the files together took some time, but the instructions were much better than most and the parts seemed to be of high quality. The files are solid and heavy. The "engineered wood" is definitely NOT the flaky "particle boards" that cheap shelving is made of. If you're not considering solid wood (at $1000+) the Palladia model is definitely a good choice.

This is a beautiful filing cabinet. The directions for assembly are extremely well written! There are both pictures and written steps that make it so user friendly! The pieces are labeled well also. Some have stickers and others have imprints stamped on side. I am impressed with Sauder quality and customer service. Product arrived well packaged and they communicate via email as soon as it's delivered. It took me about 4-6 hours to assemble but I am a newbie and took my time. Very happy with purchase.

Solid an sturdy file cabinet. Instructions were detailed and very clear. No missing parts or pieces. Took about 3 hours to assemble. Only issue was shipping and packaging of the product. Box arrived severely damaged and taped up from UPS. Luckily none of the main/front pieces were damaged. The upper left rear corner of the top was smashed in and cosmetically it looks terrible. I will need to patch and paint it to blend it in since it is laminated particle board. It would be better if the corners of the main visual pieces were wrapped in carboard bumpers or something. I will need to contact customer service about the top piece.

I've had "put it together" file cabinets... they're cheap and they don't last long. There is so much wood in this product that it took two people to carry it. The side walls are two layers thick. The drawers are sturdy and have heavier duty rails than most cabinets. And when completed, it looks better than the picture. It takes a good hour or two to put it together, but you'll understand why when it's completed. It's very solid... so I bought two!

The product is well built and looks nice now that I have it put together. However, I was not expecting it to be such a nightmare to put together. I am a very handy female but at the age of 67 with arthritis and other issues it proved to almost be more than I could do because of the heaviness of the materials and tons of screws and pieces. There were 23 steps to get this product put together. I will never again buy a product I have to put together. I am however, completely satisfied with the finished product and would purchase again if I didn't have to put it together.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and am very happy with the file cabinet. My son and I put it together. It took us well over four hours, and we thought we were pretty good at this kind of stuff. We had all the tools and then some to do the job. We found a few places where the directions were a little vague and could have been more specific with piece orientation, but were very pleased with the product quality, price and looks.
