This is my very first Marantz product. Since 1990, I had used Pioneer AV receivers. But when needing a receiver with proper 4K support, I needed to find a brand where all HDMI inputs are the same (40 Gbps, HDCP 2.3). i.e. wanted to stay away from any brand where at least half of the inputs (even when documented as being HDMI 2.1) was actually not the case as some inputs only had support for bandwidth of 18 Gbps.\r\n\r\nHaving said that, note that some of the other receivers in this Cinema line may not have all HDMI inputs the same. But the Cinema 40 has that.\r\n\r\nAlso, I had one component-video source (original Wii) that we wanted to still use, so very happy that the Cinema 40 included inputs for such equipment.\r\n\r\nThe setup of the unit was by far the best setup I've ever experienced. Input settings were very flexible and easy to understand.\r\n\r\nAudyssey was also very easy to set up. And once I performed the initial calibration, my subwoofer (B&W DB4S) definitely had more kick. Previously, even though I set it for 75 dB output with my Pioneer receiver, something must have been off. The Marantz initially gave me a warning that the sub's output was not in the recommended range, so once dialed in, the results were outstanding.\r\n\r\nReally love the remote; especially since backlit. Our source inputs really aligned well to the existing physical buttons, so very nice to have one button for each. Prior receiver forced you to share a single HDMI button for three of its inputs, so you had to cycle amongst those inputs with repeated presses of that button.\r\n\r\nWe have a 5.1 speaker setup. I'm using B&W speakers for all (702 S3 mains, HTM71 S3 center, 705 S3 surround and DB4S sub). No problem at all driving these using the built-in amps. SPL meters have shown peaks of 86 dB which is more than loud (almost too loud) for our room and comfortable listening levels. The power gauge on the on-screen display only sits around 50%, even at these higher volumes.\r\n\r\nI'm using the receiver's 12V trigger to power on/off the sub. Works extremely well.\r\n\r\nFinally, really love the aesthetics. I put the receiver outside our AV cabinet (which just houses source components), so having a minimalistic look was a very nice touch. Also, kudos to Marantz for not plastering the front face with Dolby, DTS, etc. logos.
