I have just recently purchased this product so I don't have any input as to how long it will last, but so far, so good. It is light and easy to carry and push around. The upright handle part can be lowered to lie totally flat in order to vacuum under chairs, tables, and beds without having to move the furniture, which is a big plus. (One tip if you do buy this one: there is not a foot button to push in order to lower the handle, you simply place one of your feet on top of the blue base for leverage, while at the same time lowering the handle. That was not explained in the owner's manual and it took me a while to figure out how to lower the handle in order to push it around.) The vacuum is not too terribly loud as I had feared from reading other Oreck reviews. It picks up debris quickly on the first or second pass, on both low-pile carpets and bare floors. It has a bag, which is what I was looking for. The cord is plenty long. There are no attachments on this model, but that's okay, as I have another smaller handheld vacuum for that. Overall, I would recommend this product if you just want a basic, lightweight vacuum for your floors .

A relative recommended this vacuum to me. I was complaining that my new laminate flooring was difficult to keep clean since I have cats. The daily chore of sweeping and using a dust mop was time-consuming. She said to get an Oreck. To be honest, I had not even considered vacuuming my floors. I was afraid of damaging it. She assured me that this would not damage the floor. She was right. I so wish I would have purchased this sooner! \n\nI ordered this, and it arrived within 2 days. Amazing! It was super easy to assemble. I could not believe how light it was. I have pain issues in my arms and shoulders, and this vacuum practically self-propelled. It has strong suction, and I use it on both my floors and area rugs. I do agree with other online reviewers that comment on this being loud. It is, but I don't care. What I care about is performance. This met and exceeded my expectations. I also love this vacuum because it has a bag. I do not care to clean out a canister full of allergens, so a disposable bag is wonderful. \n\nI highly recommend purchasing an Oreck. Especially if you want to use it on laminate or hardwood flooring.

I just purchased this vacuum about a month ago. I've had an Oreck in the past similar to this model and it lasted almost 20 years. Pretty impressive. So, I bought this one a short time after the other one finally broke. So far, I am still impressed with the Oreck vacuum. The two speed switch is still one of the best features on the vacuum. When I get onto light carpet I simply hit the switch to low speed and keep going. I had a single speed vacuum for a short time between the time of my old Oreck and my new one. I was constantly having to pull the light carpet away from the suction head because I couldn't turn down the speed of the motor. Not so with this Oreck model. I simply hit the switch to low speed and it still gives my light carpets a good cleaning. I am still sold on the Oreck brand and hope this one will last 20 years too.

I got tired of having to constantly stop vacuuming to empty the canister on my bag less"pet" vacuum. It was a huge mess every time. I have three dogs two of which have long hair and it is always all over! The Oreck does a great job of picking up the hair and keeping it contained in the bag. No more mess and no ordors to complain about! I vacuum once a week and have yet to change the bag due to it being full of hair, unlike the bag less vacuum I had. Only down side it I still have to use a shop vac to clean the furniture as there is no attachments or hose to clean with. It is really light compared to the bag less models I have used! The cord is really long, I can plug it in downstairs and make it to the landing at the top and still have more cord to go! Great product, wish I would have bought one sooner!

This vacuum will pick up anything. I mean whatever u throw at it is going into the bag no matter what. Two swipes and done. It does not have any attachments but I would rather have this vacuum and purchase a small canister vacuum for any reason I need to have attachments. The bag is monstrous and holds a ton. Have had it for two months and shows very little space used. The vacuum also puts out scented baking soda allowing for a very clean smell. I see this vacuum laying for a long time. The cord is extremely long and I don't have to switch outlets at all for each floor. Would buy again and again. It does not make sense to keep buying vacuums in the $80-100 range when the break or lose suction. Be smart and you will be happy with this vacuum. Oh and it's light too!!

This is my 4th Oreck upright vaccum. I've also had a couple of the small canister vacs and their carpet shampooer. I'm 78 and been vacuuming for many years and before experiencing an Oreck I had several other brands. Never had any trouble with any of my Oreck products...just passed them along when I would move to a new place. I especially like Orecks light weight and ease in getting under furniture. I really don't mind the bags...don't care to open the container full of all the nasty stuff the gables ones hold and shaking it into a garbage bag to then discard. Also those types of machines will not pass under a bed or sofa ... got to own a stick vac too to clean thoroughly. So glad to once again have a dependable Oreck... especially at my age!

I wanted a lightweight easy to push vacuum. This vacuum is great that way.\nThe commercial cord is a bit stiff but will hopefully soften up over time so it\nmoves more easily when vacuuming. It is a bit loud too.\nIt is fairly easy to tip and roll across hard surface floors when done vacuuming to return it\nto the closet but it won't roll easily on carpets when turned off so need to either pick it up and carry it or run the vacuum until you are right in front of its storage place.

The Oreck XL is a fine machine! Easy to put together. Lightweight and maneuvers well. Vacuums well. Tidy appearance -- no big, unsightly plastic and add-ons. Has a real shop-style power cord, not a flimsy cord as do other vacs. Easy to change bag -- bag compartment zipper opens easily. Easy to dust and keep clean. Easy to store -- takes up little room in the closet. My brother told me about the Oreck XL. I was totally turned off by vacs available in stores. I only wish I had known about the Oreck XL sooner! I was surprised by the price. In my searching for a decent vac, I was expecting a huge price. Good price, good value. Does what it is supposed to do and minds its own business.

These commercial Orecks last a lifetime. My old one is 25 years old and still runs great! The new model I just purchased is even better! The grip handle makes vacuuming very easy! It's very lightweight, and vacuums all surfaces like a champ! There are 3 things people may not like. 1)These vacuums DO use bags. (but I've found the bags for cheap online.) 2) This vacuum is pretty loud! It would definitely wake up a sleeping baby! 3) No attachments. This vacuum is just for floor use. But if you are looking for a workhorse of a vacuum at a very good price, I highly recommend this vacuum! You won't have to buy another vacuum for 25 years! You can't beat this vacuum for the price!

I had one of the top of the line Oreck for 17 years. Never a problem. It finally died. I paid less for this( $200) one . I can really tell how much they have changed in workmanship. The base seems more plastic. It is loud but most vacuums are. It was easy to put handle on. The cord is heavy and made well. I have to pick it up to vacuum an area rug because it sucks it up. Hopefully this one last 10 years.

This vacuum is lightweight and cleans great. It picks up everything in its path. I bought this one for my daughter. I have had one for years and it still works great! I watched videos of the Shark vacuum vs the Dyson and they leave pieces because the front keeps the vacuum from picking up small things like cheerios. I have no problem cleaning up bigger pieces with the Oreck. Because it is so lightweight, I can clean my stairs easy. It does not work as well on high pile carpets because it does not raise making it hard to push and pull. It is the perfect vacuum for low pile carpets. I was introduced to the Oreck by a cleaning company that cleans homes and offices.

I sold vacuums for years and after trying almost everything on the market this is the best performer for the price! Has a very long 35' power cord ( saves time as you can go from room to room without unplugging). The bag holds 15lbs of dirt but the vac is only 8lbs and EZ to carry up and down stairs. Will go from hardwood to carpet without adjustment. All the parts are replaceable so the vac should last for years! This vac does not have all the fancy fluff such as attachments and a headlight. This vac is built to do just (2) things, (1) Clean and (2) last!\nWho needs a headlight anyway?\nIf it is good enough for a hotel it is good enough for me!\nI Love my ORECK!

Great little vacuum that works well for carpet areas and doess a good job with dirt and paper, however be aware that it does not get any corners or edges and has no hose to compensate that and it is LOUD which is fine, but when you pull it back it has a bit of a shrill sound that actually hurts our ears a little so we use earplugs,, which are also offered on Webstaurant's webpage!

Purchased this vac for an elderly woman who needed a vacuum that was lightweight but didn't skimp on power or effectiveness and wouldn't lose suction after a few uses. The handle is comfortable and easy for her to grip, even with severe arthritis. The power switch is convenient and easy to operate. The bag is simple enough to change and reasonably priced if purchased in bulk. There's even a pocket to store the next one right on the vac. It moves easily over medium pile carpet but does a very good job picking up even staticky cat fur. The long cord allows for cleaning multiple rooms without changing outlets.

does not have a light like the standard or XL has. \nthe power cord is extremely long, I purchased this for my home because I thought it was the most powerful but I fear it has no more power than the standard XL the only difference between this model and the standard XL is the color of the motor housing and the extremely long cord.

I worked as the head of maintaince at one of So. Georgia's 5-Star, 5-Diamond resorts. This is the brand and model of the vacuums they choose to use, because of the light weight, relatively quite operation, and dependability! Vacuuming is a daily chore for the cleaning department employees. Their job required them to do lots of walking during the day, as a result they needed a vacuum that was both durable as well as very light! From years of experience, the company chose to use the Oreck brand of upright vacuums! What more could I say for their dependability and cleaning power.

Attaching the cord through the electrical cord holder was a little difficult. It is very tight but that will help it not pull out during use. The motor is very powerful but loud. Some users may need ear protection. Overall weight and ease of use is good.

I always wanted an oreck because it's lightweight and easy to use. it also has a handle that will lie flat to the floor for getting under furniture, which is a problem with all the ball or canister type vacuums. also this is a bagged vacuum. I know most people want a bag less but I prefer bagged for simplicity of design and use. easy belt access and roller bar access for cleaning it as well. it is so hard to find anymore. when using it transitions easily from rug/carpet to hard floors

I bought this for use on commercial carpet after using various brands and styles over a period of several years. This sweeper can reach under items and between things with ease. The action of the brush nearly pulls the sweeper along with very little effort. It can be controlled with one finger, honestly. The long cord feeding from the top of the handle helps keep it from around your feet and when using it at home, I can vacuum the house and only move to another plug in one time.

I LOVE this vacuum! I have 2 long haired pets and 2 short haired pets (2 dogs,2 cats) and my bag less wasn't able to keep up with the amount of fur I was dealing with. Additionally, it was not strong enough to suction the fur that was like, statically stuck to the hardwood floors. \n This Oreck handles the loads of fur and even the statically stuck fur on the hardwood with ease! This vacuum is very light and easy to maneuver, and it does an amazing job at getting up the dirt on floors and carpets! I have a very bad knee and my older vacuum weighed so much and was hard to push - this Oreck just glides over the carpet. Very easy on my bad knee. Be aware that it does not come with any attachments, but if I really need them, I just get out my older vac. I would highly recommend this product - I love this vacuum!!

My one criticism is that there is no attachment, no way to use it for anything except vacuuming the floor. One small attachment would make all the difference since it's easy to transport or hold - addition to the vacuum would allow for drapes, stairs, etc.
