Why are these controllers being sold for 75 dollars per controller? This isn’t even just an issue with the quest 2, I have friends who still have a quest 1, and their controllers started drifting in less than a year. The total for a new left and right controller would have me forking over 150. That’s absurd! So I started doing my research and stumbled upon old videos of the Rift CV1. It peaked my curiosity because I remember seeing a video suggesting buying used CV1s for entry PCVR at a cheap price. So I looked at Amazon and found them for 300+ dollars! For a 6 year old USED headset, it should not be sold so expensive! I asked a friend what his experience with the CV1 was like and where he bought it from, he gave my his review and then directed me to eBay. After looking for a good deal with free shipping, I came across this gem of a deal. Once I got the money, I bought it as quickly as I could. One week later, it shows up and I instantly set it up. Since then, I’ve had nothing but fun with this baby. I could go on and on about why I prefer this to the Quest 2, but my biggest reasons are, comfort, visuals, performance, audio, tracking, and the fact that i hardly ever use the Q2 standalone anyway. The CV1 is COMFY. I cannot stress it enough. It’s so light and the soft interior feels nice on my nose, compared to the hard plastic inside the Q2 that got oily from my nose rather quickly. The foam facial interface also feels much nicer and less scratchy because the headset isn’t sliding down or around my face. The head strap design is both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. These 6 year old OLED displays also hold up very well! The colors feel much more natural, screen door effect is minimal and easy to ignore (at least to me, your mileage may vary) and it has a slightly better FOV. The biggest benefit is that there is NO video compression because all the power isn’t being pushed through one cable! Finally, I can be immersed in the VR world without seeing weird pixels and artifacts. The IPD slider also works oh-so-well unlike the crappy 3 settings on Quest 2. Performance wise, this headset kills it! I found myself getting much more stable frame rates and more performance headroom than I did on Quest 2 w/link. Beat saber and Echo VR ran ultra smooth with the graphics being tuned relatively high, and i hardly notice any lag, stutter or tearing on this headset. And now onto audio. This has to be one of the BIGGEST improvements from the quest 2. Now, I’m no audiophile, but these sound way better than the built in audio of the Quest. Even with the Bionik Mantis clip-on earphones that I’ve been using for about a year, these built in headphones come out on top. The Mantis sound empty and harsh compared to these, and it does kinda make sense why my ears hurt when listening to higher pitched music/audio. Since I got it, I haven’t cranked the volume higher than the default config, which is around 50. Last but not least, tracking. Until I get an extension cord for my second sensor, i can only really play facing my desk, which is no big deal, but sort of a downer at the moment. The tracking itself though is another major step-up from the Quest 2. It feels so smooth that I’m not used to it, and I miss a few more notes than usual in beat saber because it isn’t as choppy and doesn’t feel forced (it kinda feels like it’s trying to guess where my hand is gonna go, resulting in a movement that feels faster than my real life movement) like the inside out tracking does. In conclusion, this headset is hecking awesome, thank you guys so much for shipping it in g

The vice HANDS DOWN has better tracking software, wider and bigger sensors obviously mean better tracking. Controllers have a weight to add to the immersion of you holding a gun or sword or something, plus the controllers have rechargeable batteries already inside them so all you have to do is buy a dock or use MIcro USB, I personally don’t like this feature because if you have guests or friends over and the controller batteries are dead / dying, have fun waiting to recharge them unlike the oculus where you open the cover and swap them out. The vive also has much more superior build quality, both headsets weigh the same but the vive.. it just feels right and sturdy when you hold it and put it on your head. It also doesn’t have the black panels on the side of your FOV like the oculus does, so when you’re in game it truly feels like you’re more inside the game. The lens on the vive are designed to combat fog and sweat much better than the oculus, at the expense of
So to summarize it: buy the oculus for versatility, portability, ease of use, intuitive controller design, and excellent software integration, with the 3rd sensor 360 tracking is fluid and beautiful, make sure to pick up ceiling or wall mounts (2x wall mounts for $10, guy laser prints them really well. Bought a set myself) and you’ll be really happy at how the sensors pick you up.
Buy the vive if you plan on never moving it, but be prepared to spend decent amounts of money for extra sensors, which also takes up space on the connector box (which you would have to buy a splitter for more USB port), basically be ready to go through more of a hassle with the vive, with the rewards being better tracking, less foggy lens, sturdier build quality. Aka the android of the VR devices.
A MUST for these two are a ceiling wire harness, $25 and it allows you to move around the room without worrying about busting your ass over the wire. Highly recommend gettin that. Read Less

If you are looking to get into VR, now has become one of the largest changes in VR for years. There are now multiple options for VR and it really all comes down to what you are willing to invest and what you are looking for. \n\nI personally have several VR systems and I have had the original Oculus Rift for over 2 years. So, I have been desiring an upgrade. However, the Rift S isn’t a complete upgrade from the original Rift, as some things have been somewhat downgraded in my opinion, but that is not to say this is a bad choice. I personally feel that the increased resolution, the reduced screen door effect, the reduced glare on the lenses and the simplicity of set-up have justified changing to the Rift S. The lack of on-ear headphones, the LCD screen and the inside out tracking have been what I feel are the slight downgrade. \n\nThe major reason I moved to the Rift S is because of my current room set-up, I can’t stretch USB cameras to ideal positions. Where the original Rift recommended 3 cameras for room-scale and needed 4 USB ports, the Rift S only needs one USB. Though the tracking is not as good with 3 external cameras, it’s not too bad and with their recent updates it is getting better. The room setup of the Rift S is the easiest of any VR system I have used and with a recent update it even became one step less. I also really enjoy taking my VR to parties and gatherings to share the experience and even compared to a Windows Mixed Reality headset I am up and running quicker.\n\nAs for the LCD screen, in normal colorful well lit experiences, I notice the increase in resolution but not the fact it is an LCD over OLED. However, in very dim lit games, ones where darkness is a key element, I can’t help but to notice the back lit panel washing out the experience. The contrast between black and grey areas is near impossible to distinguish in some experiences. \n\nI feel the biggest let down for me has been the audio. One thing I used to rave about the Rift over the Vive was that it came with headphones built in. All you had to do is grab the controllers and put the headset on and you are good to go. The Rift S has audio built in, and I was surprised at the quality, however it is so open that I feel I lose the immersion. One thing I enjoy about VR is that I am in a completely different place, taken away from actual reality. With the open audio concept of the Rift S I can now hear everything else around me, pulling me out of that immersion. The good thing is that it has a 3.5mm jack on the headset, however with the halo head brace, it’s hard to use just any headset and is best suited for in-ear headphones. There are other options that users have come up with and I am using one of them now, but wish there was a better manufacturer option. \n\nAlso to note is that you must have a Display Port or a mini-DP, as the Rift S comes with the adapter. I have an ASUS G752 laptop that has a mini-DP and it works perfectly. \n\nOverall, I really enjoy the Rift S and if it was my first VR system I probably wouldn’t have any of these minor gripes. I still prefer the Rift S for the clarity and simplicity and it will be traveling with me every time I want to share VR.

The display is running at 80hz, and some popular games just don't run smooth enough, which results in less comfortable play. My 75hz monitor looks ultra-smooth by comparison.
Only software implemented IPD adjustment.
The Field of View or FOV is pretty low and in most cases cannot be adjusted, which ends up in less comfortable play.
The headstrap speakers could be a bit better. They're just ok. So most of the time it's just better to use your own earphones or IEMs.Weniger anzeigen

This is definitely a headset that you can enjoy right out of the box if you are an up and coming VR user. The tracking and movements are incredibly smooth though do keep in mind that you need a good setup to run top of the line VR games. This does not necessarily mean expensive. The only thing that I myself could find as a bit of a con to the Oculus lineup is that they do not natively support full body tracking. If that is something you absolutely need then I would have to suggest the Vive to fit that bill. If you however simply want to jump right into the world of VR without too many of the extras then this is absolutely perfect for those that want to try or get into VR without breaking the bank. Pro: works as I had hoped. The software has been free of problems so far. Installation was easy and operating instructions readily available. The cable is no problem for me, but I can see why the next evolution would be wireless connectivity. I use the device so far for X-Plane and Google Earth VR. Both work well. Con: I read that slight fuzziness cannot be removed, and I do perceive the imagery as less than than sharp, but it is not unacceptably out of focus. BTW, being without vision in both eyes does not take one out of the user base, for I enjoy it with my one good eye. My son commented that he wished the field of view were wider (it's somewhat like looking through binoculars), and he does have a point, but it doesn't destroy the enjoyment I am having with VR.Pro: works as I had hoped. This is a very interesting piece of tech. It really feels like you are in a video game world. Compared to something like the PSVR the screen door effect is much less noticeable, but you do see it when looking into the distance. This almost adds to the immersion because it feels like you are in a 1999 arcade racing game (I use this with Project Cars 2 and a sim racing wheel and it is awesome... once you get it working). Setup can be somewhat challenging (you have to reset the position sometimes for games) but yeah once you are in you are good to go.This headset is perfect for someone with a midrange computer. My setup was an i5 9600k and a 2060. I am currently upgrading so one day I can get the Index as well but I will be putting many hours into this while that is on backorder for the forseeable future. The motion sickness is definitely an issue for me while moving in games, but when my friends have used it they did not report any sickness at all so maybe I get it worse than normal. The weak point of the headset is definitely the foam that contacts your face but it should be an easy fix with a 3rd party face shield.

TLDR; Get the Rift S if you already have a gaming PC. You won't be disappointed!\n\nI tried the Quest but after trying the S, I promptly returned the Quest. My son has the first gen Rift, so I was also able to compare the quality between the two. The S is a marked improvement! \n\nNo external cameras, better display, and almost zero screen door effect makes for a truly immersive experience. Between the S and the Quest, I'd rather put up with the cable (I ordered a 6 foot extension for only $15) and enjoy PC powered graphics than go cordless with the Quest's PS3 (some say PS2) graphics quality. \n\nIf the Quest were $100 less, I'd have a harder time making the decision. Being the same price, I'd say portability lost out to a better VR experience. Since the "R" in "VR" stands for "Reality" and you want the absolute best experience, go with the Rift S. Not having to worry about Battey life and the 2 hours it takes to recharge, is another strike against the Quest in my opinion.

I have an Index reserved for August 31st. I have sold my Vive and bought a Rift S for playing VR in the meantime, but now I am in love with it, I`ll probably going to pass the Index. I have a narrow IPD (60) but the carity and sweet spot is so much better that the original Vive. The blacks are surprisingly good and even, not to mention the screendoor reduction, and glare control. The lightness and the halo design really beats the Vive with the Deluxe Audio Strap in confort. About the cables, just pass them trough the strap headband, it will feel in the right place behind your head. Try the Mamut Grips on the Touch, to emulate the Knuckles controllers hand holding design. I also recommend buying the Plantronics RIG 500HX headphone, it is very light, great sounding, fits perfectly over the halo strap and it is cheap. Passtrough + makes easy to get and put it over. The tracking is great with the new 1.39 firmware upgrade, I actually had more ocasional jitters and hiccups with my gen 1 Vive Lighhouses. The only real downside comparing to my Vive is the horizontal field of view, it feels narrower and more squared, in the Vive it looks to me a bit larger and rounded.

The inside out tracking is perfect for beginners to VR because it eliminates the need to install sensors in your room. The controllers are lightweight and the tracking is great. Only issues I've had so far with the tracking is it gets spotty if you reach behind you where the cameras can't see the controllers or you put the controllers too close to the headset. Something to note though is sometimes I'll start the Oculus app and it won't detect the headset, prompting me to run a file via win key+R which can be a foreign concept to some. Another issue is when you close the oculus app to use your PC normally, the headset goes into standby mode, but my controllers still drained their batteries, which can be a pain unless you invest in rechargable double AA's like I did. In the end, for $400, this is a perfect startup for VR enthusiasts and I will stand by this headset firmly

This is bad news because performance may be bottlenecked but still for the most part, is not such an impactful downside. I purchased this to play the Beyond update of No Man's Sky on PC which looks visually stunning in VR (but still requires some fine tuning and optimisation). The only downside is that I can't play for longer than half an hour without feeling sick, so I would not recommend it for extended periods of use. Other than that it's amazing fun and great to share with friends and family, especially with more and more games releasing with VR compatibility!Using a VR headset is a very unique and exciting experience which I thoroughly enjoyed.

It's one thing to watch someone play on a 2D screen, it's another to put that headset on. OMG! What an amazing and emersive experience. Everyone in the family has a blast with this thing. Even our 4 year old! We put a thick scrunchy headband on him so it fits well and he just goes to town. So fun.. I want to download every single game just to see and experience whatever it is. BeatSaber is flat out freakin' awesome and brings new life into songs you've grown tired of (youtube how to download custom playlist for free, it takes a bit of work, but worth it). SuperHot makes you feel like Neo. Moss is just too cute and fun for words. Get one of these, it's an investment not an expense :)

The oculus has a few advantages over the vive and vice versa. Pros for the oculus, it weighs considerably less and is much more comfortable to wear for long periods. The eye adjustment also has a greater range. Cons, the sensors need to be plugged into the PC and not just powered off an outlet, so plan on spending another $15 or so to get a USB 3.0 extension. Running all the audio and video over the HDMI cable is handy in the fact that it gets everything down to one cable, but it causes some driver issues, especially since you have to run the oculus app in the background to use it, even if using steam VR home. Its a toss up between this and vive, both have pros and cons.

Wonderfully made, high end, easy to connect to PC and comes with an adapter for other devices. The box is well made, thoroughly padded and protective inside too. There's even batteries for the controllers.\nMy son asked for this for Christmas - to be fair he's asked for it all year - and while I was a bit wary of the price tag, I can honestly say it is worth every penny.\nNot just fun for kids, everyone can have a go - I wear glasses all the time and the headset fits comfortably over them with no fogging.\nAlso has potential for use with learning as well as being a gaming machine. Brilliant.

My only complaint is that in certain conditions, there is a very obvious and slightly distracting god ray effect (EG: when the Oculus logo is shown against the black background, you can see the light leaking to other parts of the image.) You do get used to it after a while though. The headset works excellently and when paired with capable hardware, it makes for a very enjoyable experience. I'd say this thing is the beginning of something's that's gonna blow our minds in the future, so I bought this so I can say that I was there at the beginning. I'll be keeping this bad boy so that as virtual technology advances this will eventually become a little piece of history.

So make sure you have at least 3 USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI out on your PC. My kids love them and laughe played for hours! Great thing to have if you're a gamer.

It's a weird but amazing thing being transported away to another place by putting a sweaty thing on your head, but it's also a little disconcerting. My very first VR experience ended in bloody knuckles. What can I say? That cannibal was trying to kill & eat me! (I played "The Forest"). I loved it, but you need to relax a bit if you use one of these, because trying to move through solid objects is a 100% negative experience. Therefore it's 5 stars for the Oculus Rift, and 0 stars for bodily pain and injury.
