The Cinema 40 is my 6th AV receiver and 4th Marantz. I had a 7010 that was terrific but I wanted to catch up with the latest features, specs and compatibilities. Yes, at first glance the Cinema 40 is a bit expensive but they really sweated the details on this AV receiver. Everything works perfectly with the exception of HDMI-CEC (who's does) which may or may not be Marantz's fault. The Cinema 40 really disrupts the old belief "Marantz for music, Denon for movie". The Cinema 40 is wonderful with both. Both brands use the DSP circuitry so the surround processing is superb. I can't say enough good things about the Cinema 40. It is a well polished and refined product that sounds terrific. It might be premium priced but it is obviously a premium product.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I am very pleased with this receiver. My previous receiver, same company but different brand, produced some distortion with male voices at certain frequencies and higher volumes, the C40 does not, even though it is only 10w more powerful. The build quality is very good, even the activation and deactivation of the amps is quieter. Set up is easy, haven't messed with any of the room correction as I tend to leave the receivers in Pure mode. The remote lights up, which is nice, even though it is rarely used. The app is okay. The sound quality is very good, smooth, non fatiguing, and warm yet not muted, provides a good sound stage. I have it paired with Paradigm 800F and C600 with their 12" sub. I am pleased.

Sounds incredible, setup is quick and easy, very easy to navigate menus. Coming from a t778, to my ears the c40 sounds better for both movies and music. And the reliability/warranty is much better. I was having frequent hdmi handshake issues with my t778 which have been mostly eliminated since moving to the c40. Mids and lows are much fuller, highs are less harsh. All that said, there's a few things I'd love to see eventually... A few things I'd like to see, auto input/source detection (I've got to manually change inputs to listen to my bluesound node). At this price, the basic version of Dirac should be included. The t778 handled av presets incredibly well, the c40 is lacking in this area. Presets are still possible, but from what I can tell there's no way to upmix a stereo signal and also have pure/direct enabled, you need to manually switch between upmix and direct to get TrueHD in all channels.

I upgraded from a five year old Marantz SR7013 (moved it to another listening room) to the Cinema 30. It's very pricey, but if you can afford it and consider this a long term investment, you'll be set for years to come. The unit walks you through setup and has so many ways to tailor and enhance sound. Excellent sound quality, picture quality and impressive remote control. Top line manufactured components. Built like a tank.

Finally a surround receiver that is excellent for music too. Easy setup and calibration process. Seems expensive but worth every penny.

I did a LOT of research before I completed this purchase. It comes with a hefty price tag so I wanted to get the finest AVR for my system that I could afford. I had been looking at lower end receivers with higher (and lower) power outputs, but then I went to Best Buy to their sound design room (terribly loud of a design room) and listened to my top two choices. This one was noticeably better sounding than the Cinema 50 (my other choice) especially when paired with the Bowers and Wilkins 700 series speakers. It was also noticeably better than its counterpart, the Denon line. This AVR comes with everything I needed including inputs for TV (eARC), cd, iPod, and especially my AR turntable. The output (125w/channel) was plenty big for my smallish living room and it has the capabilities for two more zones as well as a full surround-sound. (We won't be installing the surround-sound b/c it would create too much sound for my wife :-).)\n\nThe setup/install was complicated but with the on-screen setup guide it turned out easy to complete. The microphone that is provided for calibrating the speakers worked quite well and I can reuse it at any time to re-calibrate if needed.\n\nI am pleased that I did the research as well as took the time to listen to several different system pairings - it was quite apparent which had the best sound with which speakers.\n\nI would highly recommend this AVR if you have the budget for it.

Recently jumped back into the money pit searching for wonderful sound. The Marantz Cinema 40 is a nice unit. I have it paired with a couple bi-wired Wharfedale Elysian 2 speakers, a 1.3k Dual turntable with an Ortofon blue cartridge, and a 1.6k Denon SACD player. I'm getting great sound. Problem is, there are so many options on the Marantz that it's easy to be overwhelmed. I have no need for speakers all around the room to feel like I'm in a theater while watching movies. Straight-at-me-left-and-right-sound watching movies is good enough for me. And while I'm getting good sound, I'm still - 2 months later - wondering if I'm getting the best sound this unit has to offer. I've yet to download the app to be able to adjust the highs, lows, and midrange on my phone. And why should I have to? The last thing I want while listening to music is to have to mess around with my phone. Get my drift? Seems there are as many negative as positive reviews online about the app. Considering replacing the Marantz Cinema 40 with a high-end integrated amplifier. Might be a Marantz, might not be. So nothing really bad to say about the Marantz Cinema 40 necessarily. Just saying make sure this is really what you're wanting prior to your purchase. Make sure the Marantz Cinema 40 is where you're trying to get to and what you'd be comfortable with, with your sound system. If outstanding 2-channel vinyl, CD, and shooting music from your computer sound is what you're searching for then you might try looking at other units. Hope this helps with your search.

Loved the setup and the sound; however these units have a known issue with processing sound information from TVs over eARC. Internet research shows that this has been a known issue for over a year and Marantz has not managed to solve the problem. The only way to get Dolby Atmos is through switching off eARC and accepting only compressed audio info. If this is not important to you than this unit is great. However, eARC with TV programming was one of the main reasons I was upgrading from an older Onkyo TX-RZ810 receiver in the first place.

Very pleased so far. It has a lot of power and available adjustments. I haven't even had a chance to read and understand them all. So there is a lot of fun coming as I learn them. If I had one complaints, it's because 11 channel amplification and to use the full 13 you need another amp? Why couldn't they just ad 2 more amps or give you the opportunity for more speakers if you need to add amps anyways? I will add a new amp for the LCR in the future upgrade to utilize the full 13 channels

Ill first start this review by stating I am quite the audiophile currently running a 9.2.4 system. I replaced my denon x6300h which at the time was the best receiver I had personally ever heard… until I installed this. Blew me away in almost every aspect. I had a Marantz 6014 that took a power surge through my line conditioner (15) years old that i was very happy with.Now its junk!! The new cinema 40 was a huge difference in sound quality and interface.i love the changes to the menu system that simplifies the normal day to day setting changes that i do.I just hope the power supply unit inside is better than the old one. I'm still in the process of learning the Cinema 30. This item has quite a few features. Once connections are made, the simplicity in operating is straight forward and quick. The sounds are crisp and honors high fidelity at it's best. I am very proud to own such craftsmanship! As stated earlier, I still have a ways to go. Sometimes I may want to just listen to music without the television. I may or may not be able to champion. At the moment, I believe this item has to be linked to your TV (as one) for creating the home gateway. It has immense power you can not shy away from just turning that dial! Later, could be a much higher rating.

I own two Denon receivers and now I switch to a Marantz receiver. The difference between the two is Marantz has beautiful clarity and Denon has clarity and the bass is loud. I love them both (the best of both worlds) Read More

I love this receiver! It has everything 8K, 120Hz gaming a dedicated phono input for my turntable and most importantly more than enough power for my speakers. I planning to have it calibrated using Dirac to make it come alive!

I love it, it has excellent sound. I recommend it. The sound in movies is the best. I bought it in golden gray because I like that color and it looks good.

I replaced a Denon 6500h and it amazing how muchthings have changed over last 5 years. Being able to turn off amp chanels im not using is a game changer.
