The LG Washing Machine is a very nice, solid machine. Although stylish looking, the focus of the machine should be more on function like making the controls and laundry easy to see.\n\nI gave this washing machine a 4 of 5 stars. It lost 1 start due to being “too stylish”. It has a smoked glass covering the control panel and coving the laundry drum. You cannot see the labels (especially the Power/On button when the machine is off and it is not lit up). The smoked glass prevents you from easily seeing into the laundry tub and it does not allow you to see how dirty the water is (our previous LG washing machine had a clear glass lid and the dials were clearly readable – not behind smoked glass). The cellphone camera’s pictures make the controls and drum more easy to see than in real life (as a tip, I use the cellphone camera to better see the clothes/water). Finger prints on the glossy control panel and cover are very noticeable. It should be noted that this machine does *not* have a Soak feature (however it appears cycles like Deep Wash take an extra-long time during the wash cycle which sort of incorporates a Soak). Also, the lid does not stay up by itself unless it is open about 90 degrees (not good if there is a shelf above the washer).\n\nWe spent some time trying each of the cycles of the washing machine, from Normal, Quick Wash to AI Wash, Bedding and Waterproof. It is definitely a nice feature to have the Bedding and Waterproof cycles (which are missing on some other washing machines). We tried different cycles with small loads to extra-large loads and all were left clean and completed without issues (our previous LG washing machine would, more times than not, get a UE (Un Even load) code – wasting water as it tries to correct it 3 times before failing to complete the wash with very wet clothes and taking additional hours to do laundry).\n\nThe 45 page Owner’s Manual is missing pages 19-28 (these are different from pages 19-28 in the printed manual). These pages should be in the provided manual as well as a laminated Quick Start Guide to keep near the machine. These important pages cover detergent use, the control panel, time and status display, a wash cycle chart, cycle modifiers, options and extra functions. The manual doesn’t explain what TurboWash 3D or AI options are, which would be educational and of interest.\n\nThis LG washer can use the LG ThinQ app which is very nicely laid out and full of features. You can use the app for adding a single custom load of laundry to the machine (like Delicates, Baby Wear, Econowash, Swimwear, etc.) The app also has delayed start (nice to start before getting up in the morning) + remote start (not sure why), performing diagnostics (it tests 6+ operations – Water Supply, Drain, Water Level Sensor, Door, Motor, Temperature Sensor, Etc. (not sure what Etc. covers)). It also shows the amount of energy used by the machine (by day, week, month, year) as well as number of cycles (by week, month, year). It even has a counter of the number of Cycles that have been done before it recommends a “Tub Clean” (30 cycles). The washer also integrates with Google Home so that it can broadcast that the wash is complete through Google smart speakers (and also on your cellphone). And there are also 12 downloadable “end-of-wash” signals that are played when the wash cycle is complete (including Vivaldi Winter, Bach’s Minuet in G major, Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 or No. 9).\n\nComing from a 10 year old LG WT5070CW to this very capable LG WT8400C, we no longer dread doing laundry.
